Growing up years are tough on all of us. The combination of changing over from child to adult, trying to fit in somewhere, to act as if you are confident when you are not, all takes its toll. We have all gone through it.
The past decade or so has brought about so many changes that most of the earlier generations’ experiences do not qualify for expert advice anymore. Everything is new, and we need to find a new balance in life and relationships.
The stress of trying to be better than everyone else, the pressure of looking good when your hormones are just taking away your perfect childlike looks, turning into something new and unfamiliar. The inability to satisfy the parents or even relate to them anymore, dealing with new information and new emotions everyday, is not easy.
Many schools now understand the need for counselling for adolescents and teenagers. For them to be able to speak freely and in confidence, to help them not get carried away and make the wrong decisions at a vulnerable age.
I have personally curated and held workshops on conflict and stress for students, and it has been a very gratifying experience.
If we all had the opportunity to learn to look at every behaviour, and situation logically and with awareness at a young age, we could make it a lifelong learning and lead a much happier life.
